Of the many reasonably priced French wines from the 2005 vintage we have tasted, Clos des Terrasses is one of the best. We bought it at E &R Wines, 6141 SW Macadam Ave # 104, Portland, OR - (503) 246-6101.
The wine is 80% Merlot and 10% equally cabernet franc and cabernet sauvignon. Aged 12 months in oak barrels, the wine is dark red and fairly intense. Notes of ripe fruit and black cherry, round and well balanced. Already very pleasant, it will improve over 3 to 5 years.
Made by Thierry Bernard, in collaboration with cellar master, Thierry Bernard.

Clos des Terrasses is located south of Bergerac, on sunny hills and well designed vineyards. The soil is composed of a subtle mixture of clay and limestone, which gives it strength and finesse.
The climate is kind of Aquitaine, with some nuances mainland. It allows the grapes to benefit from optimum sunshine and the nights cooler authorize a long maturation.
Located a few tens of kilometers of its prestigious neighbour Saint-Emilion, the Bergerac region is not without similarities with its glorious elder.
